Importance of Press Freedom, Freedom of Information and Free Speech Press freedom is classified in agreements that establish international norms stating that a government may not interfere with or restrict media. Press freedom has long been regarded as a necessary component of democracy. The right to seek, receive, and transmit information and ideas by any means, is known as freedom of speech. The right to freedom of speech and expression applies to all ideas, including those that may be highly offensive. Lack of press freedom has resulted in the harm or even death of journalists all around the world. The tragedy of Jamal Khashoggi, who was assassinated and his body dismembered because he spoke his opinion and used his voice, it is a majour example of the lack of press freedom.
